FALL IS COMING
FISHING LAST WEEKEND WAS A TASTE OF FALL. LEAVES ON THE CREEK AND I HAD TO WEAR A LONG SLEEVE T. SAW THE SMALLEST PICKER I HAVE EVER SEEN AS I SPOTTED IT BY A BRANCH. UNMISTAKABLE NOSE ON IT AND COULDN'T HAVE BEEN MUCH MORE THAN 6 OR 7 INCHES.
TONS OF KINGFISHERS AS THE CREEK IS REALLY LOW BUT THE 3 INCHES OF RAIN WE GOT THIS WEEK SHOULD REALLY HELP.

VACATION FISHING
GUNNA SUM UP MY FISHING TRIPS THIS WEEK ALL IN ONE POST. WAS ON VACATION THIS WEEK AND I GOT OUT THURSDAY AND CAUGHT QUITE A FEW WITH ONE BEING A 16 INCH PICKERAL AND A 13 INCH SMALLY. BUT SUNDAY WAS ONE OF THE BEST DAYS I EVER HAD IN BUFFALO CREEK IF YOU INCLUDE THE WILDLIFE. I CAUGHT 22 WITH ONE A MONSTER CHUB AND A ROCK BASS THAT WAS 9 INCHES.
THE ROCK BASS I THOUGHT AT FIRST HAD TO BE A SMALLY BUT AS I TOOK IT OUT OF THE WATER THE DISTICTIVE COLORS AND RED EYE...A REAL BEAUTY.
BUT THE WILDLIFE WAS SOMETHING ELSE AND MADE THE DAY REALLY GREAT. AS I WADED DOWN THE CREEK I SAW THE BALD EAGLE AGAIN. THEN 5 DEER WITH ONE BEING A BUCK...2 DOE AND 2 FAWNS. WATCHED THEM FOR ABOUT 15 - 20 MINUTES AND THEN I HEARD A NOISE IN THE WATER BEHIND ME...THERE WERE 2 BUCK AND THE ONE WAS A REAL MONSTER. I DIDN'T BOTHER REACHING FOR MY CAMERA THAT WAS IN MY POCKET CAUSE I KNEW THAT WOULD SPOOK THEM. SO I JUST STOOD AND WATCHED THEM ALL TILL THEY DECIDED THEY WERE DONE WATERING AND THEN MOSIED ON THEIR WAY. JUST A REALLY SPECIAL DAY IN MAZEPPA : )

LOTS OF WILDLIFE TOO WITH CANADIAN GEESE AND BLUE HERONS KEEPING ME COMPANY IN THE CREEK.

MERGANZERS
OK I AM A FEW DAYS LATE WITH THIS POST BUT LAST TUESDAY WAS A NEAT VACATION DAY IN THE CREEK. CAUGHT SOME NICE FISH LIKE A 14 INCH SMALLY AND A ROCK BASS THAT WAS ABOUT 9 INCHES...A REAL BEAUTY. BUT THE HIGHLIGHT OF THIS DAY WAS A MOTHER MERGANZER TEACHING HER BABYS TO SWIM UNDERWATER AND THIS SHOW WENT ON FOR ABOUT 30 - 40 MINUTES. MOM WOULD GO ACROSS THE CREEK AND THEN SHE MUST HAVE GIVEN THE DUCKLINGS SOME KIND OF SIGNAL BECAUSE THEY ALL IN UNISON WENT ACROSS THE CREEK LIKE MOM. I HAVE WADED THE CREEK FOR 40 YEARS AND HAVE NEVER GOTTEN A SHOW LIKE THIS.

BALD EAGLE AND TANGERS
STARTED MY VACATION IN GRAND FORM...22 FISH...SAW 2 SCARLET TANGERS AND THE BALD EAGLE FLEW RIGHT IN FRONT OF ME AGAIN. THE CREEK HAS PLENTY OF WATER EVEN WITH THE RECENT DRY SPELL AND THE CRAYFISH ARE STARTING TO APPEAR. BUT ODDLY......NO SANDPIPERS YET. SAW ONE A FEW WEEKS AGO BUT THAT WAS IT.

BLUEGILLS
KIND OF AN ODD DAY FISHING THIS TIME AS I CAUGHT 11 BUT MOST WERE BLUEGILLS. HOOKED ONE NICE SMALLY BUT IT TOOK ME UNDER A TREE AND SNAPPED THE LINE. NEARLY 100 OUT AND THE CREEK FELT GOOD ESPECIALLY WHEN I HIT SOME OF THOSE COLD SPRINGS.

A FEW DAYS LATE WITH THIS POST AS WE WEIS WORKERS WERE BUSY WITH THE HOLIDAY RUSH. BUT I GOT OUT LAST SATURDAY TO FISH THE CREEK AND GOT 15. NOTHING HUGE BUT A GREAT VARIETY AND EVEN GOT A SMALL PICKERAL. LOTS OF WILDLIFE WITH THE HERONS AND 2 SETS OF BABY DUCKS. THE ONE MOTHER DID THE BROKEN WING THING TO LURE ME AWAY. AMAZING WITH ALL THE RAIN WE GOT A MONTH AGO AND NOW WE NEED MORE ESPECIALLY FOR THE CROPS. THE CORN IS REACHING TO THE SKY FOR RAIN.

BACK IN THE CREEK
WELL FINALLY...........BACK IN THE CREEK. WITH ALL THE RAIN IT HAS BEEN IMPOSSIBLE TO GET BACK IN THE CREEK FISHING. BUT THIS PALES TO MY FRIENDS LIKE THE TROESTERS WHO ARE STILL TRYING TO PLANT CORN. IN THE PAST MONTH WE HAD TO HAVE GOTTEN CLOSE TO 16 INCHES OF RAIN. IN ONE WEEK MY RAIN GAUGE RECORDED OVER 8 INCHES......YES ONE WEEK. BUT SUNDAY I WAS GETTING ROCKS FROM OUR OLD CREEK FIELD TO USE FOR LINING THE FLOWERBEDS AND THE WALKWAY AT OUR NEW HOME AND DECIDED TO CHECK THE CREEK AND IT WAS HIGH BUT CLEAR. SO I JUMPED IN AND FISHED FOR ABOUT 4 HOURS AND GOT 16. NICE VARIETY TOO WITH THE USUAL CHUBS...SMALL AND ROCK BASS...A FEW BLUEGILLS AND MY FIRST EVER RAINBOW TROUT.....13 INCHES AND IT WAS GORGEOUS. ALSO HAD A DOE WANDER ACROSS THE CREEK IN FRONT OF ME. JUST A GREAT DAY IN MAZEPPA.

2012 MEMORIAL DAY PARADE
ANOTHER GREAT PARADE AND CEREMONY LAST NIGHT WITH FRED KELLER BEING THE GUEST SPEAKER. A NICE LONG PARADE THIS YEAR AND EVEN HAD THE FIRE ENGINE AGAIN. WAS SPRINKLING AND A FEW RUMBLES OF THUNDER BUT IT DIDN'T STOP US FROM HAVING OUR PARADE. FRED'S SPEECH WAS REALLY EXCELLENT AND CONSIDERING THE THREAT OF STORMS A NICE TURNOUT. THERE WILL BE PICTURES IN THE FOLDER OF THE PARADE AND CEREMONY.
